Prevention Education Services are provided by certified Prevention Specialists. The goal of the program is to collaborate with all sectors of the community: law enforcement, education, social services and businesses for the purpose of decreasing the use of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and violence.
This is accomplished through several education, training and advocacy groups and programs (Group times and fees are subject to change depending on the need of the community). Participants will be required to register and submit a release of information before receiving Zoom codes from your instructor to start class, or to attend in person. To come into the building, please use our door located on 1001 Military Street no earlier than 10 minutes before your scheduled class or appointment.

Responsible Thinking
Cognitive Restructuring is an evidence-based approach to assisting participants with improving self-talk and integrating cognitive behavioral skills into decision-making. Each participant will be provided an interactive journal and will consider the connection between their thinking and risky behavior. This class applies for anyone ordered by St. Clair County courts for Thinking Matters or Life Skills and is open to the public in general for anyone 17 or older.

Adult Anger and Rage Management
This group provides coping skills and relaxation techniques to help participants manage their anger and adverse emotions.

Battering Intervention Program for Men
This group is specialized for men who batter. Members learn accountability and how to effectively address problems without resorting to violence.

Basic Drug Education
This class combines the previous alcohol and drug education class along with the alcohol recovery education class into one evidence-based program. This class uses Hazelden’s New Direction Curriculum and is 8 weeks long. Participants will learn about substance use disorder and the effects of alcohol and other drugs on a person’s brain, body, finances, family and freedom. They will also learn about various resources for recovery.

Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT)
This 36-hour program uses the Hazelden New Direction Program to provide participants with information on understanding co-occurring disorders, changing criminal and addictive thinking, and preventing substance use relapse. This is a court ordered program only offered at the St. Clair County Intervention Center and Huron House.
